The Lutheran Development Service in Liberia (LDS), with support from its partners, has completed the distribution of agricultural materials and vegetable seeds to hundreds of Ivorian refugees and host communities in Gbelay-Geh District, Nimba County.

A defeated aspirant in the Unity Party primary for the representative seat of District # 16 in Montserrado County has called on other defeated candidates who contested on the UP’s ticket to work collaboratively with those who won the recent primaries to ensure that the party wins the forthcoming general and presidential elections slated for October or November this year.

Are Liberians Better Off Today Than 6 Years Ago? Let Us Count The Ways

The Unity Party and their operatives, in a desperate fashion, are parading the internet with statistical information, mostly from international institutions like the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank to tout the success of the Sirleaf government to the Liberian people in order to strengthen the hopes of President Sirleaf’s re-election bid. While these statistical data appears impressive showing some successes of the Sirleaf government on paper, there is nothing in the statistics that seems to suggest that the average Liberian is better off today than 6 years ago. While under President Sirleaf, Liberia’s international image may have gotten a face-lift, her standing among the comity of nations has improved, but there is nothing to suggest that no other person couldn't have done the same as president with all the international goodwill that was abundantly flowing into Liberia following the 2005 election. The 2011 election campaign is not only about how the international community feel about Liberia, but they way the people of Liberia feel about their own pocket. And if all the indicators are right, Liberians are not better off today than six years ago.
