The Government of Liberia, in collaboration with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 opened new offices of the Mining Cadastre at the Ministry of Lands, Mines and Energy. Speaking on behalf of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf at the ceremony, Lands, Mines and Energy Minister Eugene Shannon lauded the United States of America for her continued contribution to the recovery program of Liberia.

The Cooperative Development Agency (CDA) in Gbarma District, Gbarpolu County recently launched its activities in the District for miners and certificated the Smith Town Mineral Multi-Purpose Corporative Society Limited (STMMCS) for the formation of the corporative. Speaking at the ceremony, the Secretary General of the CDA Mr. Samuel Collins said that the exercise is intended to educate local miners as well as officials of the county, noting that 'this is the first of its kinds in the history of the mineral cooperative movement of the country.'

A German national, Reiner Walter Schueider has accused the Liberia Reconstruction Development Company (LRDC) and its Managing Director Yusuf Johnson for robbing him out of about one hundred thousand United States dollars (US$100,000.00) from him. According to Mr. Schueider, the LRDC Boss Mr. Yusuf Johnson after denying him (Schueider) of the amount in question for which he has worked, told him that nobody in Liberia can push him (Mr. Johnson) to pay the money. He also alleged that Mr. Johnson told him that not even the President of Liberia can make him pay such amount.
