Dear God In Heaven:
Our nation is about to observe its 165th birth anniversary on July 26 which falls on next week Thursday, Lord. During those years we, its people, dragged and twisted low under poverty and injustices meted against us by those who had and continue to handle our political affairs and steer our ship of state. Hence, we had been economically depressed and suppressed all of the time thereby being constrained to harbor hatred and sins between and amongst ourselves. You made us naturally rich given our share of naturally resources, yet we are made poor by our political brothers and sisters some, if not all of them who are limited in terms of patriotic spirit.
Lord, we have reached a point where self-seeking, personal aggrandizement, wickedness, greed for wealth and power have once again become the order of the day. We have come to realize that most of those who lead us are not practical politicians. They have little or no vested interest in the welfare of the citizens. They are good at planning and talking but are worse when it comes to implementation. Substandard roads are built based on corruption and insincerity. With corruption planted on our soil, we often don’t have hope in our national budget because those who set the budget usually allot lion’s share for themselves. In our land Lord, a few people are rich while the vast majority wallow in abject poverty all of the time. It is therefore by your grace that we continue to exist. It is by your loving kindness that our dogs and cats are not at war. It is therefore difficult Lord, to cast hope in the future given the expressed and visible insincerity of our leaders. Change is hardly seen in their behavior judging from their philosophies in life-lies to gain favor, steal to get rich, design evils against others, etc. It is against this background Lord that we ask you to continue lifting our souls and prevent us from falling prey to the culture of sins that has taken over our land. When our souls are lifted Lord, we would be able to surmount the established social vices in the society. We would always build immunities against the temptation of selling ourselves to the devil, whose basic aim is to promote those who seek to betray their fellowmen, blackmail others for piece of bread, and above all seek blood sacrifices to gain wealth and promotion. It is our hope that you would hear our prayer and make us to stand defiantly against all vices that tend to tear us apart. In your mighty name we present our prayer-AMEN |
