Dear God In Heaven:
Since the President submitted the National Budget for fiscal year 2012/2013 to the National Legislature nearly three months ago for review, adjustment and subsequent passage into law to guide the nation’s economic direction, it remains suspended, if not dangling on the floor of the lawmakers. The lawmakers themselves Lord, are reportedly seeking lion’s share in the budget because according to them their status and responsibilities to the state require that. A lion’s share portion of the budget, as we have experienced over the years, provides the beneficiaries expensive cars, Special Allowance (SA) for special people, trips abroad for conferences that have little or no bearing on the economic growth of the country, etc.
Lord, we the concerned citizens have come to realized that the means nothing to the common man; instead it is intended keep the rich richer and the poor poorer.
There are so many institutions too that see the examples of the lawmakers as a way of having a lion’s share of the elephant meat. We call it elephant meat because it provides enrichment for a select few as opposed to meeting its real intent. Poverty, Lord, which was meant to be driven away by the budget, remains deeply rooted in the society. Of course Lord, by tradition under the Ellen Sirleaf led Unity Party government, the National Budget has always been in favor of only people who are close to the president one way or the other. Hence, we pray that in the process of their usual ‘cut and paste’ strategy aimed at giving themselves lion’s share, they should instead paste the lion’s share for schools, hospitals, county development budget, etc.
In other words, we pray that you attend the division of the budget in their secret room and confuse them against the habit of cheating the nation. Indeed, Lord the nation needs lion’s share to wipe away the culture of poverty, bad roads, hunger, and disease which has for so long kept your people bending low and shedding tears all of the time. Hear our fervent prayer and act upon it now! AMEN.
