The President of Liberia Fulah Association, Bella Diallo, has called on the government for the establishment of a National Standard Body for the importation and exportation of goods in the country.
Mr. Diallo said the establishment of a National Standard Body by the government will ensure the exanimation of goods coming into the country aimed at saving citizens.
He made the statement last Friday during discussion concerning a bill seeking the establishment of a National Standard Body in Liberia, headed by Representative Fofi S. Baimbasv from Lofa County.
He also indicated that Standard Body is essential for the development of Liberia in the areas of trade capacity building and export potential as such law would ensure the importation and exportation of goods meet international regional standards.
It also highlighted that the issue of Standard Body should be government priority because of the influx of sub-standard goods and low prices received from some exports such as cocoa due to poor quality.
The forum identified lack of mechanism for testing products entering the country, thereby aiding the quality of goods to be sub-standard and dangerous for human consumption, something the government needs to take some actions on in order to protect the lives of citizens.
