A local rights group Executive Director is calling on both national and international human right organizations in the country to empower local human right organizations in the rural parts of the country to help buttress the right of the children. Mr. Alie Fofana of the Global Watch for Women and Children's Rights in Grand Cape Mount County said he believes that when the local rights groups are empowered, they will help in combating the alarming rate of human rights abuses against children, women in their assignment areas.

According to Mr. Fofana, the Global Watch for Women and Children's Rights was established in 2002 in neighboring Sierra Leone when he was living in that country as a refugee. Following the civil conflict, Mr. Fofana narrated that he brought the organization to Liberia to advocate for the rights of children and women in the country.

He strongly spoke of the importance for national and international organizations dealing with human rights issues to help construct offices in rural Liberia. "I am calling for more supports to rural rights groups to be empowered as they carry out awareness about children and women rights to help reduce the numerous abuses against children and women in the country," he averred.
