Students hailing from River Gee County and attending the University of Liberia have raised concerns over what they called the continuous political rift among some prominent citizens, leading to disunity in the county.
The students, under the organization, the River Gee University of Liberia Students Association, observed with regret that since the election in the county, there have been disunity, and retaliatory propaganda, with parties claiming absolute political might or/and influence.
Keah Jacques Cooper, President of the students, expressed disappointment over the media war between Senator Nathaniel Williams and Ambassador Commany Wesseh, indicating that the situation has the propensity to hold development hostage in the county.
According to Cooper, the two River Gee opinion leaders have been focusing on "Arch Harmony" attacks, and defaming each other character, among others. The River Gee University Students President then called on Senator Williams and Amb. Weseeh to put an immediate end to the 'ugly politics' and focus on developing the lives of citizens in the county.
"What River Gee needs now is for people to put aside all the bad feelings and hatred generated as a result of the election to put the interest of the people first. We need unity and development," he stressed. At the same time, Copper has underscored the need for circumstances surrounding the murder of Abdulai Bah in the county and other crimes to be taken serious despite the urgent need for unity and development.
He suggested that individuals who are linked to crimes in the county be arrested and prosecuted in order to deter would-be criminals. Meanwhile, the River Gee Students are calling on Government to ensure that people implicated in the GAC report in the county are sent to court, if Liberia must move forward.
