Two persons including a pregnant woman and a man believed to be in his late thirties have reportedly died in a tragic motor accident on the Totota- Keleibei Highway in Bong County. According to our Bong County Correspondent, the incident occurred on Tuesday, February 3, 2010 when a NISSAN Pickup traveling from Keleibei Town to Totota, failed on a hill and somersaulted into a creek. The pickup was said have been bringing people from Keleibei Market.
Our Correspondent said, about 14 passengers were on the pickup and the two persons died instantly while ten of them sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at the Phebe Hospital in Bong County. Narrating the incident to our Correspondent, Kollie Willie, one of the passengers said, the vehicle had crossed a bridge and while climbing a hill at Daikpansue Junction, it gave up, rolled back and crashed at the bridge, in which it somersaulted. Daikpansue is 20 kilometers from the main road.
Survivor Kollie Willie noted that the problem might have been an engine failure because according to him, the pickup was overloaded with cassava, eddoes, gallons of palm oil, and plantain among other local commodities, "something very heavy" while passengers were sitting on top.
Up to the time of filing in this report, the deceased's identities had not been known, but our Correspondent gathered that the pregnant woman might have come from Gbarpolu County, while the man was said to have come from Monrovia to visit his relatives in the area.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the two persons have been deposited at the Phebe Hospital awaiting identity by families.
