The outbreak of diseases is said to be creeping in Liberia, something if not quickly tackled, would engulf the entire country. Amidst reports of cases of measles in some parts of Liberia, the Chief Medical Officer of Bong County, Dr. Samson K. Arzoaquoi has alarmed a serous outbreak of some dangerous diseases in the County. Speaking to the IN PROFILE DAILY in the County recently, Dr. Arzoaquoi disclosed that about three weeks ago, a case of measles was discovered in the County, something which he said has up to present increased to sixteen cases.
He said the outbreak has become a devastating manifestation of the kind of medical problem that Bong County is presently faced with. Dr. Arzoaquoi further said, while the County health team was contemplating on tackling the disease, there was information of the outbreak of another dangerous disease, whooping cough which is one of the surveillance children diseases, and at least eleven cases of laser fever and rabies were also discovered, making the situation worrisome. Dr. Arzoaquoi further disclosed that the diseases which have created a bad situation for the County have been cropping up from Lofa and Nimba Counties as well as neighboring Guinea. He explained that as a means of fighting the diseases and preventing them from spreading to other Counties, the County Health Team has begun vaccination campaigns in various parts of the County, with support from the Liberian Government and its partners, but said more need to be done if the diseases must be eradicated from the County.
The Bong County Chief Medical officer however called on all parents in the County to take advantage of the immunization and make sure that their Children are vaccinated, as the team will continue with the process until the diseases are kicked out of the area. It can be recalled recently that cases of measles were reported in Lofa and other counties in Southeastern Liberia.
