At long last, proposal for the Booker Washington Institute (BWI) in Kakata Margibi County to be elevated to a technical college status has landed at the National Legislature.

Education Minister Etmonia Tarpeh and BWI board Chairman said the bill has been submitted to House Committee on Education for deliberations.

She promised work along with BWI administration and Margibi County legislative Caucus to ensure the speedy passage of the bill.

Mrs. Tarpeh observed that if the bill is passed, and BWI becomes a technical College, there will be more technocrats and the issue of brain drains will be eradicated.

In this light, members of the Margibi County legislative Caucus are expected to hold discussions today, aimed at seeking the speedy passage of the proposed law.

Ben A. Fofana, a member of the Margibi County Legislative Member, said “the Caucus believes in an enabling tomorrow this is why the Caucus is working assiduously to ensure that BWI achieve its College status.”

Representative Fofana said the school’s ascendancy is not only a victory for the current administration headed by Mr. Mulbah S. Jackollie, it is also in response to the Liberian government policy to improving tertiary education in the Country.

Also speaking, Margibi Superintendent John Buway lauded the Chairman and members of the BWI board of directors for their farsightedness ensuring that the proposed bill is forwarded to the Capital building.

Superintendent Buway said his administration is prepared to work along with the School administration to elevate BWI to full college level.

Meanwhile, the Director of the National Commission on Higher Education, Dr. Michael Slawon, said his commission is standing by to examine all conditions that would qualify BWI to operate as a full-fledged tertiary institution in the Country.
