The Liberia Trade Mission through its Trade Representative, Gurly Gibson, said her office was instrumental in bringing potential US and Canadian Investors to the country so as to explore areas of investment mainly in  tourism, banking and finance and healthcare delivery.

For his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Augustine Ngafuan, said the ministry’s duty is to advance the cause of economic diplomacy by using their embassies and contacts in order to facilitate development in the country.

Minister Ngafuan said he was elated in the representative of the Liberian trade office, Gurly Gibson, for organizing such worthy trip of potential investors, thus making the government feel that it is hitting targets with some of their deliverables; and hoped that other sectors and line ministries that will meet with the delegation  will  be anticipating good discussions and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will assist the delegation in navigating them through the Liberian bureaucracy.

Minster Ngafuan reminded the delegation that their coming is cardinal, because it comes at a point when government is gearing up towards what President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf calls her dry season deliverables, especially  August which the government has declared a month of planning and hard work.

Minister Ngafuan also  prayed that the meeting between the government and the investment delegation will result in the cutting of ribbons for new companies so as to buttress government’s employment promise to its people.

He assured the delegation of government’s fullest support throughout their process of assessment and subsequently opening  companies or businesses across the country.

Minister Ngafuan charged the Department of International Cooperation to attract other opportunities through the country.

For his part, the spokesperson of the delegation, Stanley Straughter, said they were looking forward to collaborating with local firms and businesses so as to help bring them up to international standards and promised to work with other firms and NGOs in the country to boost the country’s economy .

The team of business people from the US and Canada arrived in the country over the weekend to hold business discussions with Liberian government officials, businesses and entrepreneur in the country.

The delegation which is under the auspices of the Trade and Investment Office(TIO) of the Liberian Embassy   in the US will spend the next two weeks exploring private sector growth opportunities in Liberia , studying trends in the country’s developing and fast- growing economy, while also finding ways to spur job growth by potentially boosting small and mid-sized business operations throughout the nation.
