Affectionately  referred to as ‘ambassadors’ by Lonestar Cell MTN, over three hundred (300) young Liberian men and women have been honored and certificated for serving as SIM cards registrars for the GSM Company across Liberia. SIM is Subscriber Identity Module. Lonestar Cell MTN’s authorities honored the young men and women at what they called ‘Ambassador’s Appreciation Ceremony’, held Friday, August 17, 2012, at the company’s headquarters in Congo Town.

Making remarks, Lonestar Cell MTN’s corporate communications executive, Dr. Laurence K. Bropleh, praised the honorees for their tremendous efforts in registering the company’s SIM cards throughout Liberia, thus providing the opportunity to have subscribers in hard-to-reach communities registered their SIM cards. Dr. Bropleh said, though the SIM card registration continues, they thought it was necessary to appreciate the ‘ambassadors’ for their tireless efforts over the years, thus recording the company over one million subscribers.

The Lonestar Cell MTN’s Corporate Communications Executive said employment of the ambassadors to register SIM cards is not only to satisfy the company’s benefit, but was also intended for Lonestar Cell, as a corporate entity, to create employment opportunity for Liberians. He said: “Lonestar Cell MTN, as a corporate entity, saw the need to respond to President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf’s call for corporate entities to create employment opportunities for the citizens.”

According to Dr. Bropleh, the SIM registration process has changed the conditions of the ambassadors because they can now provide for themselves basic social services such as schooling, healthcare, business, purchase of land and family needs, among others.

He equally challenged them to double their efforts, as the exercise continues with many emerging subscribers on a daily basis.

For his part, Lonestar Cell MTN’s chief executive officer (CEO), Mr. Tebogo Mogapi, while certificating the ambassadors, had this to say, “We appreciate you; you have the great potential to go beyond what you are doing now.” Mr. Tebogo said the company will continue to work with the honorees.

In response, the honorees in turn commended Lonestar Cell MTN management for providing employment for opportunity for them. The honorees, through their representative, ‘Most Outstanding Ambassador’ Diamond Watkins, outlined how the company SIM registration exercise has provided them the opportunity to earn for themselves livelihood. Watkins said many of them were not anybody, but they are now somebody in society having been employed by the Lonestar Cell MTN.

He also challenged his colleagues to work vigilantly in making sure that all subscribers are registered.

Meanwhile, Lonestar Cell MTN management has disclosed plans to confer higher honor on the ‘ambassadors’ at the end of their duty.

The program was characterized by dramas on educating subscribers about SIM cards and mobile money registrations. Other Lonestar Cell MTN senior managers and staff also graced the occasion.
