President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf has rubbished a recent statement by Margibi County Senator Oscar Cooper, labeling his county is the ‘gateway to Liberia’, saying the county is filled with dirt and vast agriculture land lying in ruin with agriculture students not making use of the wasted land.
The Liberian leader made the remark Wednesday, in Kakata when she dedicated several projects in Margibi County.
Senator Cooper had earlier described Margibi County as the gateway to Liberia, because people coming from neighboring countries by air have to pass through the county via Roberts International Airport (RIA).
But President differed with the Senator and termed the county as a ‘gateway to trash’ because dirt was piled up at the entrance of the Booker Washington vocational Institute (BWI) in Kakata. There has been no response from the citizens including lawmakers of the county.
In a related development, Senator Cooper, during the dedication program, promised that the Social Development Fund (SDF) and County Development Fund (CDF) will be used for the development of the county.
Senator Cooper declared that, when it comes to transparency and accountability, the county legislative caucus is willing to provide oversight of the developmental projects of the county and are working with superintendents, residents and international partners to the people of the county to deliver the basic social services to the county. |
