Forty (40) subscribers of Lonestar Cell MTN have begun receiving prizes from the company, with ten in each of the four categories: jersey, football, sports bag and E-transfer starter pack. Their numbers emerged winners from a raffle draw played among subscribers who predicted in favor of Liberia during the Liberia-Ghana game.
The Lonstar Cell MTN had introduced the “Predict & Win” prior to the game, in which subscribers stood the chance by predicting winning country through text-the country name to a short code to form part of the raffle draw.
Presenting the prizes to some of the winners at a brief program held Friday, at the company’s headquarters in Congo Town, Lonestar Cell MTN’s brand manager, Garrison W. Barh, praised the winners as well as all subscribers who believe in the GSM company and Liberia as a whole. According to Barh, Lonestar Cell MTN had introduced the promo through which Liberians would express patriotism and self-esteem during the Liberia-Ghana match; something he said was demonstrated by the subscribers.
Barh explained that other winners were far away in some parts of the country and were not able to be part of Friday’s occasion, but called on them to contact the Lonestar Cell MTN to receive their prizes. “We are calling on the other winners to come and receive their prizes; their numbers are being published in the newspapers,” Barh indicated.
The Lonestar Cell MTN’s brand manager told journalists that the promo was also intended to raise the peace and reconciliation spirit in Liberians ‘because sports is one of the means.’
In an interview following the occasion, Barh estimated as over 13, 000 subscribers who took part in the “Predict & Win,” out of which he revealed that about 7,000 predicted in favor of Ghana, while the rest chose Liberia. “The rest that predicted for Liberia were the people whose numbers were put into electronic raffle draw and 40 of them were chosen by the machine,” he explained.
Barh was quick to note that score was not part of the raffle draw, but win was the matter. The proud recipients were in a jubilant mood Friday, praising Lonestar Cell MTN for conducting the raffle in a transparent manner. They confessed of being skeptical upon receiving calls from Lonestar Cell MTN staff about their prizes, taking the information to be trickery. “Since this call has become true and I received my prize, I will never overlook any message from Lonestar again. Thanks to management,” a female subscriber told journalists after receiving her prize-E-transfer starter pack.
