The Internal Audit Secretariat (IAS) says it has extended its operations to seven additional government’s ministries and agencies as part of phase two of the entity’s audit exercise.
IAS’ Deputy Executive Director Emmanuel Nyeswa Disclosed that beginning November 1, 2012, the IAS will assign directors and deputies to various ministries and agencies as a means of buttressing government’s effort to aimed at making Liberia corruption free.
The Internal Audit Secretariat is a government owned auditing firm situated in various ministries to monitor the expenditures of government revenues. It is collaborating with the General Auditing Commission (GAC).
Addressing a news conference Thursday, Deputy IAS Executive Director Nyeswa said phase two of the audit, the IAS will audit the Ministries of Commerce, Labour, Youth and Sports, Gender Ministry, Justice Ministry and Information as well as the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company.
Mr. Nyeswa disclosed that the IAS has already covered eight Ministries including Education, Public Works, Internal Affairs, Land Mines & Energy, Foreign Affairs, Agriculture and Health Social Welfare.
He extended appreciation to the ministers for the cooperation accorded the IAS during the conduct of the audit.
He also named the deployment of directors at eight ministries, the completion of risk assessment, annual work plans and the conduct of seven successful audits as some of the achievements of the IAS for the past seven months.
Mr. Nyeswa said arrangement has been concluded with a consultant from Nairobi for the training of auditors in Certified Forensic Examination slated for November this year.
He averred that after the training, the auditors are expected to take the Certified Internal Auditors exams.
At the same time, the IAS Deputy Executive Director disclosed that seven auditors will depart Liberia for Florida, the United States to undergo a two week training program.
Mr. Nyeswa then named lack of advance training internationally for auditors as one of the challenges faced by the Internal Audit Secretariat. |
