Information Minister Lewis Brown has expressed total indignation over reports about how Liberia was represented at the Miss ECOWAS Peace Pageant in Nigeria.
Minister Brown termed as surreptitious, the manner in which Miss Briggitte Rouhana and Ulla Weyatta Metzger allegedly appeared in the ECOWAS’ Pageant, disclosing that he has ordered an investigation into the matter.
Minister Brown noted that as far as the Liberian Government is concerned, the entire process of Miss Liberia Beauty Pageant has been suspended and that there is no Miss Liberia at the moment.
He further noted that those behind the ‘clandestine move’ will be held liable and questioned for slinking in unknown persons to the ECOWAS’ Beauty Pageant.
Speaking to the In profile Daily Wednesday in Monrovia, Minister Brown noted that a nine- man committee that was set up to investigate the controversy surrounding the Miss Liberia Beauty Pageant has not released any report to determine who is Miss Liberia.
Also speaking to this paper, another participant of the Beauty Pageant who asked for anonymity said Montserrado County Representative Munah Pelham decided to take two participants to the ECOWAS’ Beauty Pageant because she has promised to future Miss Liberia during the ceremony to accrue a huge sum of United States dollars and other benefits.
She said although she does not know the total amount, before departure she was contacted by Representative Pelham whether she was interested in the trip.
Sources also said because of Representative Pelham’s personal problem with the Nigerian organizer only identified as Christopher, she decided to stir up the judgment after she had noticed that her friend Briggitte Rouhana did not win the pageant.
When quizzed whether it is true that the winner Linda Knowleden who is Miss Lofa County has a relation with the organizer, the source said she could not deny or admit the claim, but that it was the rumor she heard from the great vane, which she thinks Representative Pelham has thus leading to the controversy over the results.
When contacted, the Office Assistant of Representative Pelham said she was out of the country and that anything that has to do with Miss Liberia the Ministry of Information should be contacted and not the lawmaker.
Also, when contacted through mobile phone, the Miss Liberia organizer phone rang without response, but in an interview yesterday morning over a local radio station in Monrovia, the controversial Winner, Miss Lofa County, said she was astonished over the manner in which Representative Pelham arbitrarily took two contenders to Nigeria without the involvement of the government, when in fact, the nine- man committee has not released its findings to the Liberian Government.
She said despite the ‘secret plan’ allegedly by Representative Pelham and others, she still remains observant until the committee releases its findings to the government.
