Vice President Joseph N. Boakai has announced the resolution of   the Government of Liberia-ELWA land dispute.

At a joint press conference held Wednesday, January 9. 2013 at his Capitol Hill Office, VP Boakai stated that ‘although some difficulties were experienced in the exercise, the two parties (the Government and ELWA), realized the need to cooperate and finally decided to have an amicable resolution of the dispute.

According to a release issued, the press conference was attended by the Town Chief and Elders of King Gray Town as well as representatives of ELWA and the Liberia Council of Churches.

  Mr. Will Elphick, Director of ELWA  said,  ELWA, supported by the leadership of the Liberia Council of Churches, realized government’s need for the land and willingly consented to give it 11.2 acres of land based on the understanding that the government grants ELWA a Title Deed to the remaining portion of the  Land.

The Vice President disclosed that they   will compensate ELWA for two houses on the land that government will take over at asset value.

He said the government has consented to the terms of the agreement and promised to honor it to the letter.

” We the government, the ELWA/SIM family, the leadership of the Church of Liberia and the King Gray family want to make it public and express gratitude to all who contributed to this process, for the unity of our nation”,  the VP  stated.

At the same time, ELWA, King Gray and the Government of Liberia said they were pleased with the resolution of the matter and that they concurred with the decision.
