The United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) has admitted that the late Natte Peters was working as  UNMIL personnel prior to her death, but refused to give the identity of the individual she worked with before she got killed, on grounds that the situation is currently being investigated by officers of the Liberia National Police (LNP).

Ms. Peters was reportedly murdered in cold blood and her body placed in a wheelbarrow and kept in a charcoal warehouse on Friday, January 4, 2012 on 12TH Street, Sinkor, in a compound widely speculated to be the home of an UNMIL Ugandan police officer.

During   the mission’s press briefing last Wednesday at its Plaza headquarters, UNMIL Spokesman AleemSiddique said the mission remains committed to working along with the LNP   in getting to the bottom of the matter.

“Though we regret the situation, UNMIL cannot comment on the incident while investigation is ongoing, only the LNP can speak on the issue when she deems it necessary as investigator”, the mission spokesman indicated.

However, reports gathered by this paper seem to suggest that 17- year –old Michael Dennis  who was said to be living at the compound where the incident occurred  has been apprehended and detained  at the Zone One Police Deport an is undergoing  investigation.

At the same time, there are reports that the alleged perpetrator who is suspected to be an UMIL officer has been smuggled out of the country, though it is yet to be independently confirmed.

It can be recalled that some Russian nationals serving on the mission here years back were accused of gang rape of young Liberian girls on 24th Street, Sinkor but the incident at the time was swept under the carpet.

As the narration goes, when the issue was reported in the media, the men were secretly flown out of Liberia while the LNP was conducting an investigation.

It can also be recalled that another UNMIL foreign national who used a Liberian lady to credit huge amount of United States dollars from money exchangers in Monrovia which he could not pay was covered up in similar manner and subsequently deported at the time.

Accordingly, when the money exchangers decided to mount pressure by going to the UNMIL headquarters demanding payment of their money, there were calculated security manipulations used and the indebted UNMIL personnel was secretly deported while the LNP investigated those who credited the escapee.
