The Chairman of the Steering Committee on the High Level Panel (HLP) of eminent persons Liberia’s Secretariat, Dr. AbdulaiDukuly, has disclosed that President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf will welcome and host a meeting of eminent guests to Liberia, for the post Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Agenda.

Dr. Dukuly made the disclosure Thursday, January 10, 2013, at the regular press briefing of the Ministry of Information Cultural Affairs and Tourism held in Monrovia.

According to him, the meeting is part of ongoing discussions between fellow members of the HLP of eminent persons, set up by UN Secretary General to make recommendations on the global development framework succeed the MDGs when it expires in 2015.

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf was appointed Co-chair of the HLP in July 2012, alongside Indonesian President SusiloBambangYudhoyono and British Prime Minister David Cameron.

 He said the HLP has been tasked with the responsibility of  making recommendation regarding the vision and shape of the  new agenda, building on the MDGs and with a view to end poverty; and indentify ways to build and sustain broad political consensus on an ambitious yet achievable Post 2015 framework.

DrDukuly further noted that the meeting of the HLP panel is expected to take place in Monrovia from January 30 to February 1, 2013, with the   theme: ‘National Building blocks for Sustained Prosperity.’

He said the President and her guests are expected to discuss the progress of the Panel and plans for the Monrovia meeting later this month.
