Little Korlu Kamara, a 17-year-old sex worker, is appealing to the Gender and Development Ministry for training opportunities to get rid of prostitution.

Miss Kamara has explained that prostitution has been the only means through which her family can be sustained.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with In Profile Daily on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at her 72nd residence in Paynesville, Miss Kamara revealed that she lives with her parents despite her attitude of engaging in commercial sex.

“I live with my parents in the 72nd community but my mother and father are not doing anything to sustain the family. My mother is very ill while my father is a handicap. So, I have to do what I am doing to support my parents,’’ she narrated.

According to her, she is the first child of her parents, reason why she cannot sit and see her family living such a deplorable condition.

Korlu indicated that since her debut as a sex worker, she earns L$500.00 to LD$800.00 for just a night depending on the amount of male customers she receives at night.
Korlu said she usually saves some of her earning and spends the rest on her family every day.
Despite her ordeal, the teenage sex worker pointed out that she is fed up with selling her body and pride for money.

This is the reason why Miss Kamara has thrown out an appeal for the government to create or provide the necessary opportunities including scholarships and basic training as well as employment that will enable those involved in commercial sex learn and improve their living conditions, instead of selling their bodies for money. This, according to her, will help make them be useful in the society and to their families as well.
