The Liberia branch of the Pentecostal Assembly of the World (PAW) Chruch, Incorporated, says its National Convention for this year (2013) will be held in Gbarnga, Bong County. The Convention runs from February 4-10, at the Mother Slewion Memorial Church of the PAW (host) in the Plum Valley Community in Gbarnga.
Bishop Leo Massaquoi Simpson, head of the 35th Liberia African West Council (LWAC) of PAW, made the disclosure on Thursday, January 17, 2013, at his Haywood Mission Institute (HMI) office in Old Road. He is also the Principal/Administrator of the HMI, run by the PAW.
According to Bishop Simpson, at this year’s event, which is the PAW’s 85th National Convention, delegates are expected to reassess the targets and goals set up during their 84th National Convention held in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County last year. He estimated between 150 and 200 delegates from across the country to grace occasion.
He outlined activities at the convention as teaching, indented to evangelize or introduce the words of God to people and business meetings, meant for the building of the PAW. “Evangelism is the core of0 Christianity; that is introducing Jesus to people. Also, it is our social responsibility,” he maintained.
Also at the convention, Bishop Simpson said they are expected to identify with some vulnerable people.
Bishop Simpson revealed that this year’s Convention will be held under the theme: “More of Jesus and less of me” with text taken from John 3:22-…
However, Bishop Simpson admitted that the organization could not realize the one million Liberian dollars (L$1 million) fund drive launched at their 84th Convention last year in Buchanan. He indicated that after raising three hundred thousand Liberian dollars (L$300,000.00) at the convention, they held only one event, at which about sixteen thousand Liberian dollars (L$16,000.00) was raised.
Bishop Simpson attributed the shortfall to several activities carried out by the Church during the year.
Against this backdrop, he said they will critically decide on which target to set at the pending convention and how to meet the target. |
