The Acting Director of Transport, Engineering and Economic Planning at the Ministry of Public Works, Blamoh Tugbeh, has disclosed that the installation of traffic lights has commenced in Monrovia and parts adjacent.

Mr. Tugbeh named areas where the traffic lights are being installed as ELWA, Barnesville, New Georgia and Freeport junctions, as well as 12TH street, Sinkor, VAMOMA House, 20th Street, Bong Mines Bridge, Old Road and RIA- Rehab Road.

He said other targeted areas to be considered include Somalia Drive, Bassa Community, Logan Town, Redlight, Randall Street, Broad Street, Duport Road Junction and SKD Boulevard.
According to him, Tubmanburg City in Bomi County is the only city outside of Montserrado County to benefit from the traffic lights installation.

Mr. Tugbeh said six containers have already arrived in the country with all necessary tools and equipment for the exercise.

Speaking to reporters last Saturday at Catholic Junction at the first point of the installation exercise, he said they have decided to begin from the junction because it is one of the mean points due to its accident rate especially    at night, noting that traffic lights will help to regulate the movement of vehicles and pedestrians.

He said the traffic lights are solar made lights   donated by the People’s Republic of China.

Also speaking, Deputy Public Works Minister for Technical Services, Victor B. Smith, said the installation of the traffic lights will be extended to other parts of Montserrado County and other counties before 2015.

He noted that the installation of the lights will help facilitate the free movement of traffic in the targeted areas.
