The Cultural Ambassador of Liberia, Juli Endee, has said culture is a great contribution to national reconciliation in every nation.
She made the statement last Friday on the Providence Island, Bushrod Island, when the body of one of Liberia’s veteran movies author, Peter Ballah was taken there for hours of wake keeping.
According to her, culture does not only contribute to national reconciliation, but it also serves as a hallmark to reuniting people after conflict.
Ambassador Endee emphasized that people also come together worldwide when different acts of culture performances are being performed, adding that it brings joy among people regardless affiliations.
“Especially in Liberia, culture has always played a major role in the country reconciliation process where people from different backgrounds of the country come together for a cultural festival to demonstrate their talents during reconciliation process”, Amb. Endee indicated. The Culture Ambassador noted that no society can exist without the practice of culture, stating that the practice of culture plays a major role in national development.
She said culture is also used to carry out awareness during reconciliation process and to educate the minds of traditional people to the activities.
Amb.Endee said if Liberia is to improve in its development, the citizens of the country must respect their culture and work towards its improvement.
She noted that the practice of culture in Liberia has not been respected since the end of the civil war because both the government and the citizens have failed to support and respect it, noting that such attitude is also causing its decline in the country.
At the same time, the Culture Ambassador has challenged the Government of Liberian and Liberians especially those who knew the late oldman Ballah to follow his good examples by upholding the culture of the country. |
