Authority at the National Museum has renewed calls for the intervention of the Government of Liberia to revitalize the state only museum that is currently operating below standard as it relates to the status of a National Museum.
The National Museum which has oversight responsibility of making artifacts of the past visible to its people is currently almost in ruin. The historical sight that has already lost its appearance unlike the past according to authority has also been ignored by the public due to the lack of the necessary elements that should serve the purpose for which the Museum was established. Against this latest development, the Acting Director of the National Museum Mr. Albert Markeh said that until the Liberian Government along with its international partners come in to save the institution from further collapse, the credibility of the entity remains at stake. Director Markeh spoke recently in Monrovia, and indicated that the lack of artifacts on the third floor intended for ethnolograph, historical and contemporary galleries is seriously impeding productivity at the historical institution; he further added that it is also essential that all well meaning Liberians come to the aid of the Museum. According to a survey carried out by our reporter, since the ascendancy of the UP led administration the Vice President of Liberia Joseph Boakai who deputized for President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf at this program, once visited the facility and made commitment to improve the vicinity but the commitment has yet to come fruition. |
