At a gathering of Liberian journalists in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County, Republic of Liberia on Friday, April 4, 2013, the President of the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) demanded that the Government of Liberia (GOL) should compensate a journalist who was charged with armed robbery, spent nine months at the Monrovia Central Prison (MPC) but was acquitted by a jury after trial. The PUL President then threatened to sue the GOL for damages in the event that the GOL fails to meet the PUL’s demand for compensation. The PUL’s demand and threatened lawsuit were reported by the Liberia Broadcasting System at 2: P.M. on Friday, April 4, 2013.
