The UN's support to HIV and AIDS prevention, treatment and care will be articulated in a broad three-year strategic framework, which will be under a second phase of a recently concluded Government of Liberia- United Nations Joint Programme on HIV and AIDS. The UN, Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, National AIDS Commission and other partners will, in the next few weeks, include additional information on specific support areas and interventions within the document, funding modalities, and a monitoring and evaluation framework.

The metamorphic arguments relating to statements made by the head of the Executive Protection Service (EPS) Hon. Daniel Othello Warrick, on May 3, 2013 during the observance of the Press Freedom Day in Grand Bassa County, and the Press Union of Liberia (PUL) subsequent response to such, as well as criticisms from Liberians have drawn my attention to comment. Critically speaking, the statements made by Hon. Warrick was appropriate , giving the fact that media institutions have miserably failed to maintain ethical standards and credibility in the process of journalism.

As Liberian journalists and friends of the media converged in Buchanan, Grand Bassa County to commemorate World Press Freedom Day under the theme: “Media-Security Relations: An Imperative for Consolidating Peace in Liberia”, they were eager to be edified in media and security issues and in this vein anticipated thought-provoking remarks that could highlight the stiff challenges and horrendous defacement.  With such fascinating topic, the Press Union of Liberia – an umbrella for journalists and media institutions – was optimistic to cement cordial relationship between media practitioners and state security apparatus in an endeavor to ease journalists’ work to get hold of information, create a level playing field and foster mutual respect.

The late “Family of Man” 1974 award winner and Liberia’s 19th former President, Dr. William Richard Tolbert Jr. will from May 12-13, 2013, be honorably remembered as his 100th birth anniversary is expected to be celebrated in a series of events hosted by the Tolbert family in collaboration with the Liberia Baptist Theological Seminary, Liberia Baptist Missionary Education Convention and Baptist World Alliance and friends.
